Assessment

Students at Bradon Forest have been graded using the new GCSE system since 2014. This follows the Government’s removal of the National Curriculum levelling system and the introduction of new GCSE grades.  The grading system we are using at Bradon Forest is based on grades 9 - 1 (9 being the highest) which were used to grade Maths and English GCSEs in 2017 and will be used for most other subjects in 2018.

Students are set targets for the end of each academic year based on the outcomes from their Key Stage 2 SATs. In some cases these targets may be considerably higher than their working at grade.  This may be because it is a subject that they previously did not study extensively at primary school, such as Design and Technology, Languages or Music.

Students, parents and carers are provided with assessment information three times a year in Years 7, 8 and 9 and five times in Years 10 and 11. The data capture sheets include effort grades for homework and classwork, as well as current working at grades. Students have extended tutor periods during the year in order to look in detail at their data capture sheet and to track their progress.

Any questions regarding the data capture sheets should be directed to your child’s tutor in the first instance.
