Basketball Success

The Bradon Basketball teams have, once again, made the school proud! Teams from Year 8 to 11 have been playing hard for the last few months, fighting their way through the league tables to come out on top - or pretty close, in the Swindon Schools Competition (SSC)!

Year 8 Squad

The Year 8 boys had a good start to 2017, with a storming win over Churchfields, 42-9 on 4 January. The MVP was Harry Scanlon, but the whole team deserved a huge 'well done'. They made it through to the Swindon Schools Semi-Final on Thursday 12 January, but experienced disappointment when they lost 39-30 against Ridgeway. The MVP was Lewis Newman. The team will undoubtedly bounce back next year with the mantra "defence, defence, defence!"

Year 9 Squad

The Year 9's were split in to two squads, A and B. Y9A earned a place in the SSC semi-final when they beat Ridgeway with a convincing 66-16 win. MVP for that match was Zack Stretch. On 13 December Y9B notched up some valuable experience, but unfortunately got beat by last years finalists, Churchfields, 46-23. The MVP was Billy Saunders.

Y9A beat Commonweal 40-24 on Thursday 12 January to return to the Swindon school cup final! Well done to Zack Stretch for another MVP. The final against Churchfields was played at home in our new sports hall, to an amazing crowd of supporters, on 18 January. The boys played incredible and came out victorious as Swindon Schools Champions -  58-26!

The Y9A ended the season 2nd in the county. Despite playing hard, they lost out in the County finals on 24 January, to Bishops Wadworth. Mr Matthews said: "Well done Year 9 Basketball. 2nd in the county. Great way to finish the season! Looking forward to next year already!"

You can read the report of the match final on the WASP website:

Year 11 Squad

Congratulations to the Year 11 squad for a very successful school career.  They will be missed! After a convincing 48-13 win against Swindon Academy back in December, the squad earned their place in the SSC final. They ended things on a high, with a 60-48 win against Commonweal on 31 January, securing their Swindon Schools Champion title!. Well done lads!
