Bradon Forest at Buckingham Palace

Yesterday Mr Palmer, Bradon Forest's Duke of Edinburgh Coordinator, attended Buckingham Palace to be officially presented with the Duke of Edinburgh licence for Bradon Forest as well as joining the Gold Award winners.  Here is his report:

I queued outside the gates and was then escorted in with hundreds of other Duke of Edinburgh guests. We went around into the gardens and were allocated to our given areas. The Royal Marine Band was playing and we were encouraged to walk around the grounds. When the ceremony got started the National Anthem played and then came out Princess Anne and the Earl and Countess of Wessex………. and Mary Berry! They mixed with the various different pods of D of E award winners.  I really enjoyed seeing how every child was so different - from different back grounds, different needs and different ethnic back grounds but they all shared a common success which was the D of E Gold Award.

When the winners had been presented with their awards there was then a section for recognition and a unit leader from Bristol with 25 years’ service and myself were presented with our certificates. We enjoyed an engaging talk from Pippa Stewart who is an extreme explorer and has just returned from South America after exploring a part of the world never been seen before. The presentation photo I have is with her as we were not allowed photo’s with the royals.

I had a very positive day and I hope with the potential of sixth form at Bradon that one day our students will be invited to enjoy the experience too.
