Dancing in Wonderland

Miss Partington reports: This piece was created by a collaboration of choreography from myself and the students. The Bradon Forest Dance Company and KS3 Dance Club came together to put on an adaptation of ‘Alice in Wonderland’ looking at the stresses put upon our young people and their journey to success. A variety of dance styles were showcased from Jazz, Contemporary and Tap to Commercial/ Hip Hop and puppetry (GCSE Drama students). The students combined their acting skills to take the audience on a journey with Alice through a world of nonsense.
With great stamina, the students performed 3 shows in the one evening with such high energy and enthusiasm towards their arts form. True dedication and professionalism was shown by all involved. This was a great project to welcome new Bradon Forest Dancers and say our goodbye’s to Year 11’s whom sadly performed their last show with us at Bradon Forest. We wish them all the best and look forward to great new opportunities for the rest of us here at the Bradon Forest Theatre.
Synopsis
The pressure to conform, the pressure to succeed and the pressure to never make mistakes unsurprisingly becomes too much for 15 Year old Alice. After yet another argument with her mother, she falls asleep in the meadow next to her family home. When she ‘awakens’ she comes face to face with a rather striking and rather human like, White Rabbit. She follows him high and low, wondering what it is he is rushing to get to. But suddenly she falls, down into the rabbit hole. She falls so far, she feels she must be at the centre of the earth. She finds herself trapped, surrounded by doors and one key which doesn’t seem to fit. She cries and cries until suddenly, the river which has formed, made from her tears, forces open the door to, Wonderland.
The Bradon Forest Dance Company
The BFS Dance Company is made up of two groups: our Wednesday ‘after school’ company which was audition only and our KS3 Dance club who meet every Monday lunchtime. The poem spoken by the Cheshire Cat (Dominic Waldron) was written by our very own Olivia Steinheart. Textiles club led by Mrs Bone have been working very hard in creating our Caterpillar and GCSE Drama boys have worked with Dominic to create the fantastic Cheshire cat through puppetry.
