English Revision Sessions

As Year 11 approach the examination season of 2017, the English Faculty would like to offer students the chance to attend after school revision sessions for their English Language GCSE. These sessions will be held in the Hall from 3.40pm to 4.40pm and will commence on Wednesday 18 January 2017.

Although these sessions are not compulsory, we strongly advise that your child attends these sessions in order to help them achieve their full potential in the English Language examinations in June.

If you would like your son/daughter to attend, please email a reply by Friday 13 January 2017 to thompsonl@bradonforest.wilts.sch.uk. Please include your child’s name and details of how they will get home. You will need to ensure that your son/daughter has a way of getting home after the session.

For information the late school buses to North Swindon/Cricklade and West Swindon depart at 4.50pm.

In the meantime, Year 11 students should continue to revise the Literature texts:
•    Re-read and watch any production of “An Inspector Calls” or “Macbeth” (these are available on YouTube)
•    Re-read and watch any production of “A Christmas Carol” (especially the 1951 “Scrooge” with Alastair Sim)
•    Use the English Faculty YouTube channel (BradonEnglish) which has many revision clips to view •    Learn the key quotes from each text (many of these key quotes are displayed on the English
corridor and are in English classrooms – take a photo!)
•    Use your revision cards as quick reminders for these texts: characters, setting, plot points etc.
•    Check (and practise) spelling of key words (especially names of texts and writers)
•    Research revision guides/tasks based on poems in the Anthology (use the Internet for this) and use your own yellow covered revision guide provided by English Faculty
•    Check for exemplar material and practice papers on the Edexcel website (Literature).

We hope that your child will take advantage of the sessions at this crucial time. Please do not hesitate to contact either Ms Paisey (Head of Faculty), myself (Miss Thompson – Second in Faculty) or your child’s English teacher if you would like any further information.
