English Springboard to GCSE

The English Springboard Days on 6 and 7 July 2016 introduced Year 9 students to the new GCSE English topics that they will study from September 2016. Year 9 will be the second year through this more rigorous exam syllabus so the aim of the Springboard Days was to provide five sessions which would give them a taste of the topics and texts covered over the GCSE course (Macbeth, A Christmas Carol, An Inspector Calls, Poetry and Language Techniques). Feedback from the students has been extremely positive. Many students have commented on how much they enjoyed the different sessions and how much fun they had.

One student reported, "It was a great two days - I wasn't expecting to enjoy it as much as I did."

The five English sessions included a range of activities: hunting QR codes, target practice, acting in role, reorganising poetry and film-making. The English Faculty were very impressed by the high level of engagement and commitment from the students.

Ms Paisey, Head of English, commented, "It was really fantastic to see the students get fully involved in all the activities. We hope that this experience will help Yr 9 get ready for the GCSE challenges ahead."
