Hitler on Trial

A group of 42 Y11 students went to the St George’s Concert Hall in Bristol last week to take part in a “Hitler on Trial” workshop. They received a 50 minute presentation on likely exam questions and advice about what the examiners are looking for in their answers.  The students were also provided with a workbook to support their learning.

A 75 minute trial then ensued with ten witnesses for the defence and prosecution of Hitler. The students were asked to evaluate from the evidence provided by each witness if Hitler was guilty, not guilty or neither.  We won’t spoil the trip for future year groups by telling you what happens at the end!

Miss Mazelin said ‘The aim of the trial is to help students to develop their understanding of the use of evidence, to promote their understanding of causation, and to develop their ability to analyse historical arguments, rather than to help them memorise factual information.’

A student said ‘It was a worthwhile trip and has helped give me a different perspective’.
