Key Stage 3 Mini EPQ projects

A few month ago More Able students in Key Stage 3 were invited to undertake a mini EPQ (Extended Project Qualification) in their own time. The students' choice of topic was free. Subjects covered included electric guitars, Bosnia-Herzegovina, sailing, basketball and a stuntman’s journey.

Ms Hunter, Assistant Headteacher responsible for mentoring the More Able students said:

The EPQ is a qualification which students take in sixth form. Extended projects can help students to develop and demonstrate a range of valuable skills through pursuing their interests and investigating topics in more depth. Our students haven’t completed a full project but what they have produced will set them up well for doing the real EPQ later in their academic careers.

Charlotte Martin, a Year 9 student, said:

We were asked to complete a project on a topic that we couldn’t do in school. I chose oil painting.  I am hoping to use the experience to help me in my GCSEs as I have chosen to study Art.
