Learning for the Digital Age

Last week all students have had an assembly based around Safer Internet Day 2014. The main message has been around how we can build a better online community as a world via the internet. Students have also been given information about our exciting development in teaching and learning. Staff and students will be looking at how mobile technology can help learning both in and out of the classroom. To enable this to take place all students will be taking a Digital Citizenship Agreement home next week for both parents and students to sign and return to tutors by Thursday 13 February 2014.  The agreement points out the six major areas students, staff and parents need to be aware of in the Digital Age: respecting yourself, protecting yourself, respecting others, protecting others, respecting intellectual property and protecting intellectual property.

School rules regarding mobile device use continues to be that they should neither be seen nor heard unless a member of staff has given specific permission. This rule enables Kindles to be used in tutor time for silent reading, mobile phone apps to be used to assist with access to homework being set on our new learning portal, augmented reality and immediate feedback in lessons. There will be other new e-initiatives we will be trialling during the year and at each stage we will update parents via the weekly bulletin. All students have been informed about the need for their feedback in Term 6 and a parent information evening regarding the use of mobile technology in education will be held in Term 6 also.

The Governing Body adopted our amended E-Safety policy this week, which can be found on the school website http://bradonforest.org.uk/Information/Key-Policies/.   Please note that students’ mobile devices are their own responsibility and are not covered by the school’s insurance.  If you have any queries regarding the use of mobile devices in school, please do not hesitate to contact Ms Hunter.
