Options for Year 9

Year 9 Options

We are entering an important and exciting period for our Year 9 students. Everyone studies the cores subjects; English, Mathematics and Science. However it is at this time that students in Year 9 get to decide which subjects to take going forward into Year 10 and the new GCSE curriculum.

At the end of January 2016 the Options process commenced with an Options Fair morning where students could be seen busy circulating amongst the various stalls asking questions and engaging in discussions about the subjects on offer. D2 was a hive of activity and there was a buzz of excitement in the air as students considered their future options. Teachers and Careers staff were on hand to advise and inform, and we were especially pleased to welcome 15 ex Bradon Forest students from Cirencester College who gave up their time to attend the Fair. It was a tremendous bonus for the Year 9s to be able to  discuss ideas with experienced students who had been through the process and succeeded.

The following week we saw an excellent turnout by parents and carers for the Year 9 Parents’ Evening, illustrating the great support that our students will have to help them with this process. Headteacher, Dr Morrison said, “It was great to hear so many students maturely discussing their futures.”

We reported back in December about the Soloman Theatre Company visit. The performance was designed to highlight external influences when making these important decisions and to get students to think about what is best for them.
