Revision advice for English PPEs

KS3 English PPEs

The KS3 English PPEs will focus on skills and terminology; all KS3 students will have some revision/preparation lessons in class before the PPEs. The areas being tested will be: capital letters, sentence types, spelling, homophones, word types (verbs, adjectives, nouns etc.), commas, similes/metaphors, prepositions, apostrophes, articles (definite/indefinite), devices (such as alliteration, oxymoron, repetition, hyperbole etc.), semi-colons and identifying facts.

Students should not worry about these tests - these are designed to show the English Faculty what each students knows and where intervention might be needed.

Students are advised to ask their teacher if they have any concerns.

Year 11 English Literature PPEs

The Y11 English Literature PPEs will focus on the four areas needed in the real exam in May - Paper 1: Macbeth and An Inspector Calls; Paper 2: A Christmas Carol and Anthology and Unseen Poetry.

Revise these key texts - quotes to learn are on the H drive and there is plenty of revision material online (such as GCSE Pod and YouTube).

Students are advised to ask their teacher if they have any concerns.

Year 11 English Language Speaking & Listening Exams

The Y11 Speaking and Listening exams take place in the week beginning Monday 8 January 2018. All students have been given their time and should have a topic prepared - presentations should be between 8 - 15 minutes. Students are allowed notes and/or powerpoints but cannot read them – it is a test of speaking.

Students are advised if there is any confusion or worry, to please speak to their English teacher.
