Sewing Bee

Mrs Bone reports: "Students were set a challenge to redesign a standard pillow case and turn it into a creative textiles product of their choice. Out of the wonderful selection of designs entered, ten students were chosen to compete in the final.

During a focused six hours in the textiles workshop we saw a fantastic display of skill, from heat transfer printing to pom pom making. We saw outcomes such as bags, an apron, a bodice and even a tactical vest! It was great to see such a variety of creative outcomes.

After a tough fifteen minutes of studying the outcomes and much head scratching our student judges declared Manaka Oh, Year 7, the winner and Harry Ritchings, Year 7, the runner up. We are very proud of all the students that entered and displayed such fantastic skill and perseverance."

The students judges were Year 10's Harry Rule, Mia Goulton and Kingsley Kent, selected for their technology talent. Manaka received a Liberty sewing kit as first prize and Harry won a 'sew your own' kit.
