“Smell you later” - How animals talk with chemicals

Lecture by well-known author and TV presenter Prof Adam Hart

Insects and animals use all sorts of chemicals to communicate all sorts of things. In a colony of insects there could be millions of individuals with no one in charge yet they are very organised.

How do they do that?

In this interactive lecture where Professor Adam Hart will introduce you to some of these smells and what they mean – teaching you how to “talk” like the animals!

About the speaker: Prof Adam Hart is an English scientist, author and broadcaster. He has co-presented three BBC TV documentaries on social insects (BBC4's Planet Ant: Life Inside the Colony, BBC2's Life on Planet Ant and BBC2's Hive Alive). Adam has written and presented numerous BBC Radio 4 and BBC World Service documentaries and written more than 70 scientific papers.
