Supra Curricula

Challenge assemblies this term talked about what might give students the edge when applying for universities and jobs. Merton College, Oxford University introduced Year 8s to the idea of supra curricula and making sure that students go beyond what is taught in the classroom by taking their interests to a whole new level.
One suggestion from Merton College was to participate in national competitions. If your child is in Year 11 and is considering reading English at university, the following competition, sponsored by Oxford University, is a great opportunity to do just that!
The Christopher Tower poetry competition 2017 (Years 11 - 13)
There are cash prizes as well as getting your work seen by some Oxford Dons. This year’s theme is ‘STONE’ and the judges are Sarah Howe and Vahni Capildeo. First prize £3,000; second prize £1,000 and third prize £500. Closing date 17/2/17.
