Swindon Schools Netball Tournament

On Thursday 10th October, Bradon Forest took a U’14 and a U’16 squad over to Dorcan for the Swindon Schools Netball Tournament.  The school have had a great deal of success in this event in the past so we had a lot to life up to!

In both age categories, Bradon Forest had to play everyone in their group, 6 games in total. The top 2 teams from each age group would then go on to represent Swindon in the County Finals.

Both teams started very confidently.  The U’16’s had good victories over Commonweal (7-6) and Dorcan (6-4). Unfortunately, they just lost to Lydiard Park Academy (5-3), Royal Wotton Bassett (8-6) and Isambard (8-6) with all 3 matches extremely close. The squad comprising of Georgia Clifford, Elisha Davey, Jojo Farley, Bella Fedai (Captain), Charlotte Humphries, Eleasha Kell, Bryony Lockett, Paige Osbourne and Ayren Walker played some excellent netball but were disappointed to finish 4th in the group. Charlotte Humphries was player of the tournament due to her dynamic attacking play in all matches.

The U’14 squad were unfortunately without Hayley Ambrose due to a netball injury the day before but Alex Abrahams slotted easily into the match day squad.  The U’14’s started their campaign with a convincing win over Isambard 13-1. The winning run carried on for them with secure wins over Lydiard Park Academy (10-1), Kingsdown (8-1) and Royal Wotton Bassett (7-1). Facing Commonweal and Dorcan, the girls knew that they were in for tougher matches but they held their composure and won 7-5 and 7-6. The girls were winners of the group with 52 goals scored and only 15 conceded!

The squad of Alex Abrahams, Abi Cook, Hollie Compton (Captain), Erin Donnelly, Emilia Hutchinson, Ellie Phillips, Phoebe Skelton and Belle Walker deserved to be crowned Swindon champions! Phoebe Skelton was player of the tournament due to her consistent domination of the centre third in all matches. The girls are now training hard before the Wiltshire Schools Tournament at Dauntseys on Sunday 17th November.

Well done to all girls for displaying great netball skills on the day, for being a credit to Bradon Forest and for helping Bradon be the most successful school overall at the tournament.
