The Real Underground Experience - Big Pit National Coal Museum

On Tuesday 24 April, Dr Morrison took 50 Year 8 students to Big Pit Museum in Wales.

Big Pit is a World Heritage site, a real coal mine and one of Britain's leading mining museums.

With facilities to educate and entertain all ages, Big Pit is an exciting and informative day out. Enjoy a multi-media tour of a modern coal mine with a virtual miner in the Mining Galleries, exhibitions in the Pithead Baths and Historic colliery buildings.

The students now have the challenge of coming up with an idea for a product for the museum gift shop. Groups of four or five will work together on their presentations to be shown to Dr Morrison in a couple of weeks.

"The highlight of the trip was definitely the guided tour by a real life ex-minor. The students were suitably impressed and inspired. I'm very much looking forward to their presentations in a fortnight." Dr Morrison
