Year 10 Artist Day

On Thursday 18 May, the Art Department hosted their annual Artist Day for the Year 10 GCSE students. Three of our talented Art teachers set up their own studios for the groups to rotate around, giving them the opportunity to experience new techniques.

Mr Martch-Harry led a dry point etching workshop. Students chose a black and white image which they could then trace by scratching out the lines on a piece of perspex. They then covered this with oil based ink and printed on wet paper to achieve some excellent results.

Next up was Mrs Holmes with large, bold mixed-media pictures of different sweet products. Students were able to experiment with mixing charcoal and chalk pastels to create their pieces.

Mrs Chappell led a still life photography workshop. Students could choose from a selection of objects to create a still life. They then uploaded their photos and could then manipulate them in to Man Ray style montage.

Mr Martch-Harry said: "It was great to see the students producing such high quality work. It will be interesting to see if they choose to develop the new techniques in to their exam pieces. Thank you to Mrs Holmes and Mrs Chappell for hosting excellent workshops."
