Year 6 Models bring GCSE Project to Life

Thanks to a group of models from St Mary's Primary School, our Year 10 Textiles students saw their recent project come to life. The Year 6 girls headed over to the Textiles department on the morning of Tuesday 29 November as a surprise to the Bradon Forest artists. The class had designed and made a variety of dresses, made for younger girls, out of a pillow case. They used a variety of techniques, including, laser cutting, patchwork, plique, starch resist, heat transfer, embellishments and machine embroidery to bring their design to life.

Mrs Bone said: "I am so impressed with their creations! They all did such a fantastic job, and it has been wonderful to see them modeled, rather than on a hanger. It really brings it to life and also serves to highlight areas which may need extra attention when it comes to their GCSE pieces."

Year 6 pupil, Lois, said: "I'm very impressed with the dresses. They are very inspiring and I can't wait to try textiles when I come here!"

The project was set as a practice for their final pieces, and students went through the whole process of design to execution. Inspiration came from all around: "I looked to the Autumn colours for my dress and am really pleased with how the leaves turned out. It was great to have the freedom to try different techniques, and encorporate our own ideas." Mia Buckingham.

Thank you to all the Year 6 pupils and to Ms Duffy and Mrs Howse for making the surprise possible. It's funny to think the dresses started life as a simple pillow case!
