Year 7 celebrate St Martin's Day

Year 7 students have been learning about German customs. Today is St Martin’s Day which is similar to Halloween and Bonfire Night, only with lanterns as well. Students from 7R3 and 7B1 gathered together to sing traditional German songs associated with the day. Mrs Lappin baked some special men made out of sweetened bread, called Weckmänner, and shared out some sweets.

Student Amelia Kitchen said, ‘We learned that the Germans light candles in lanterns and they walk around people’s houses and if they’re not good, they don’t get sweets!’

Haydon Galt told us “Mrs Lappin’s home baked bread man was the best bread I’ve ever tasted in my life!”
