Year 8 Visit to Oxford University

On Monday 23 January, Ms Hunter took 12 Year 8 students to spend the day at Oxford University. The group explored the “treasures” exhibition in the Bodlian Library and had a tour of Oxford, before  being hosted by Merton College.

After lunch in the grand medieval hall, students had a tour of Merton College and found out some interesting facts about the Civil war. It was interesting to learn that Queen Henrietta’s court was moved from London to Merton College when the Parliamentarians took over London and the court was moved to Oxford.

Our hosts also gave a talk to our students about about ways to prepare for applying to world class universities:

  • Resilience and Ambition - They were reminded that they needed to be reading beyond school books and expand their knowledge of subjects they were interested in.
  • Super Curricular Opportunities - researching a subject and presenting to others.

Students will share their thoughts on this trip in our next Challenge Assembly next week.
