The transition to secondary school is a very exciting time, a time of new discoveries and opportunities.  However, it can also be a daunting and stressful prospect.  It is our job to ensure that we do all we can to make the move to ‘big school’ go as smoothly as possible and to ensure each child makes the very best start to their secondary school journey.

Our first correspondence with families was posted in March.  You can download a copy of the letter here.  This is a link to the questionnaire we asked our new families to complete.

Our second letter to families was sent in early May; you can download a copy of the letter here.  This letter included information about applying for the bus to school (where appropriate).  More information about the bus services can be found on this dedicated page of our website.  The deadline for applications for the bus service operated by Wiltshire County Council was 1 June 2023.  For Swindon residents applications must have been made by 5 June to guarantee a place on the bus.

During Terms 5 and 6 Mrs Wiltshire, our Transition Leader and Head of Year 7, visited Year 6 children in their primary schools to get to know them and also to speak with their teachers.  The information gained during these meetings was used to place each child in the most appropriate tutor group for them.

Our final correspondence with families was sent out at the end of June.  You can download a copy of the letter here.

Our induction day for our new Year 7 students was held earlier this term.  An information evening was also held for our new parents.  You can download a copy of the presentation here.  A selected number of older students supported our new students during their induction day and these student will be their Peer Mentors throughout their time in Year 7.

Year 7 students and their Year 10 Peer Mentors will be the only students in school on the first day of term, Monday 4 September 2023.  This will be another chance for our new students to explore and acclimatise to their new school before being joined by the rest of the year groups.

Summer School

We will be running a Summer School during in the summer holiday.  This will be for a limited number of students with priority given to students identified by their primary schools as most in need of additional induction support.
