Term 4 Sport Round-Up

Term 4 was always going to be a busy one, with table tennis, football, ‘invasion games’ and gymnastics in lessons plus the start of the ‘Girls Basketball’ and ‘Boys Football’ fixtures.

Year 9 Boys Football

There was a strong start from the football teams with Year 9 beating St John’s 2:1 on 22 February, thanks to goals from Tobias Iango and Tom Ponting. The whole team put in a great performance and Man of the Match was awarded to Cameron Clements. The team then put in a great performance on 1 March with a 3-1 win against Ridgeway. Tom Ponting with a brace then Jamie White added a 3rd.

“So many Man of the match performances from Year 9 make it a tough decision, but Tom Ponting gets it for his goals, ‘hold up play’ and creating chances.” Mr Matthews

March 7 saw an “awesome team display” by the Year 9 team where everyone played great football and defended well in their 7-0 win against Isambard. Congratulations to Beyazit Durdu for getting Man of the Match who “showed classy display in the centre mid, read the game, passed well and scored!” There were so many superb performances again, not least by Tom Pitt (excellent finishing) & Beyazit Durdu on their goals and Tom Ponting on his 5!

The Year 9 team then smashed out another win, 4:0 against RWBA on 21 March. “So hard to choose the man of the match tonight.  Everyone was brilliant. Jamie White just edges it for his commanding display at the back. Congratulations to Harvey Richards and Ben Cardas for opening your scoring account at Bradon, and well done Tom Ponting and Tobias Lango for other two.” - Mr Matthews

It was Nova Hreod’s turn to be ‘schooled’ on 24 March, where they were subjected to an 11:0 loss against our Year 9 Boys’ Football team. Well done & congratulation Sou Watanabe on the Man of the Match. Another good example of textbook finishing by tonight's goal scorers; Tom Ponting and Tobias Lango, with Hatricks Beyzit Durdu & Sou Watanabe with braces and Dan Franks with a goal too. “As is often the case with the Year 9 Football team, it’s so hard to choose a Man of the Match as they were yet again all superb...Tom Pitt just edges it.” - Mr Matthews

The Year 9 team ended the term with an unlucky 3:2 loss against a strong Lydiard Park Academy team. An opportunity for them to focus their strategy ahead of the Swindon Schools’ Cup after Easter.

Girls’ Basketball

The Girls’ Basketball teams also enjoyed a successful term. The Year 7 team were “awesome” in their 24:0 victory against Isambard on 15 March, where Trinity Lango was awarded Most Valuable Player (MVP) for great shooting.

The Year 8 teams smashed out a 56:6 win against Dorcan on 29 March after a “top effort by all”, and Emily Rule awarded MVP.

Our Year 9 Girls Basketball team enjoyed celebrating another victory over Dorcan, with a 28:8 win on 29 March. Well done to Jazz Gregory who was MVP, part of a great team performance.

Year 7 Boys Football

It’s been great to see the Year 7 Boys’ team put top effort in to their first matches for Bradon Forest. On 28 February, Euan Spackman was awarded Man of the Match for his brace of goals in the 3:1 win against Isambard. The team then beat Nova Hreod on 7 March thanks to a strike from Sam Ponting (plus an own goal from Nova).

“Strong performance by Harrison Bennett in the year 7 Football. A deserved recipient of the man of the match. Well done young man!” - Mr Matthews

Girls Football

The girls football teams have a good foundation for development. The U14 & U16 teams both put in a good effort in their March matches, but unfortunately they both came second to Dorcan 1-4 and 1-2 respectively. Well done to M.Hutchison & L. Bulley as MVPs.

Year 10 Boys Football

Well done to the Year 10 boys for a great term. They celebrated a convincing 9:1 win on 1 March against RWBA: 4 goals from Harry Rule, 2 from Harrison Mace, 2 from Dan Clare and 1 from Brandon Weatherly. A deserved Man of Match was awarded to Harrison Mace.

They put in another superb performance on 10 March, with Dan Claire and Harry Rule with a brace each & Max Spackman scoring one in a 5:1 win against LPA.

Well done for a good win again on 29 March, this time a 4:2 against Ridgeway. Man of the Match went to Jamie Harrison, and goals came from Dan Clare (2) Harrison Mace (1) and an OG.

Mr Matthews has been excited about the first training sessions for Year 7 Basketball: “Great to see such potential!”

The Year 10 GCSE students head on a road trip to @HAOEC in Yorkshire for some Mountain Biking and Rock Climbing over the Easter break. Full report and photos next term. Have a great time!
