Our WEX Week offers Year 10 students an invaluable opportunity to experience the world of employment. It’s an excellent chance to investigate careers of interest, while gaining that all important addition to the CV for future college applications and part time jobs!

Below is all the information that students and families will need to assist them in acquiring their WEX placement.

Please note the deadline for ‘pink slips’ – placement form – is on FRIDAY 1 MARCH 2024.

  • Students are encouraged to check with local organisations and places of interest to see if they take WEX students on.  Please check the WEX booklet for more hints and tips on how to find a suitable placement.
  • If students are unable to find a placement in their first choice sector, they are asked to think about where else might be suitable. For instance, not all vet practices will have insurance to cover under 18s, so if you want to work with animals, have a think about other settings where you might be able to still gain this experience and try them.
  • If you have given your pink form to an employer for completion, please feel free to politely chase them a week or so after if you still haven’t received anything back. It may be that they are waiting on the student to make contact again for collection of the form.
  • Yellow form – This is the consent form, to be signed by the parent/guardian confirming they are happy for information to be shared with the employer.
  • Pink Form – This is the form that students complete upon finding a placement. Students need to hand the form to the employer for completion of ’employer details’ boxes. It then needs to be signed by student and parent/guardian before being handed in to Progression – DEADLINE 1 MARCH 2024
  • WEX Booklet – This is for the student to refer to during the WEX process. It explains what happens, where to look for a role and how to go about approaching employers.
  • WEX PPT Presentation  – Explains the process and further information to help parents/guardians and students with the process.
